Well, recently we conducted a good debate in our readers or students of UPTU on the topic that what is more important for the students of University. Is it their skill set or Bookish knowledge which will take them further to achieve their goals.Here we got views of many students. Some were they were confident on there skills while there were still few who supported bookish knowledge in low words. Response was quite good. For more you can refer below. Also we have selected and declared the winner for debate.

In this  PLACEMENT EXPERT ADVISE section we are presenting an Interview of  SAURABH WALIA on the basis of our talk with him. Hope this interview will help the student’s to prepare them for the placement. Walia SAURABH WALIA at present is the HEAD- Training & Placement Department At ACCURATE INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY. He had working Experience of around 7 years in this field. He has also worked in organisation Like Cognizant, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. He also runs his own training company named SMS Training.   Hello Sir UPTU Khabar Editor: What is the skill’s a college student need to face the interview? Saurabh Walia: A fresher should must had good communication skill, presentation skill I.e. how  to present himself in front of interviewer and had interview handling skill.   UPTU Khabar Editor: According to you what qualities did a fresher lack’s due to which he Fail’s to crack the interview or not survive in the corporate world? SAURABH WALIA:  In today scenario what I had seen in the student is that they do not have good domain knowledge (i.e. subject taught in 2nd & 3rd yr) in which they are studying. They forget those subjects or had no deep knowledge. Also they do not have dedication and discipline. And they had no clear goal that where they had to go.   UPTU Khabar Editor: Sir according to you how can a student during these 4year’s of B.tech can transform himself from student to industry ready? SAURABH WALIA: In the very first year they should connect them self to T&P dept of their respective college to get important guideline and evaluation. In first year they should focus to strengthen their Aptitude and reasoning skill. In 2nd & 3rd year they should focus on to gain the deep domain knowledge because it will help them in future. In 3rd yr they should go for internship as it will help them to know an insight of industry. Also from 3rd yr they should work on a LIVE PROJECT related to there domain. In final year they should start learning about Interview Handling skill, Resume Writing and also can do Value Added Course based on industry demand. Example Today In PHP there are around 20 million job opening but student don’t prefer to do course in this  technology because it is not it there syllabus. TIPS ABOUT THE RESUME MAKING. UPTU Khabar Editor: Sir says something about online hiring technique? SAURABH WALIA: Online Hiring technique is a new trend in the industry.There is an increase in 20%-23% in this. It is also a very effective technique because Student doesn’t need to go from conventional process and it also help industry to get the right talent. Student should make their profile on social networking site’s like LINKEDIN and FACEBOOK.Also there profile should be relevant because company shortlist them on this basis. Also Companies like TCS, Cognizant, and IBM offer online technical training and quiz so student should actively take part in this. UPTUKHABAR EDITOR: Sir we had listened about the ups and down’s in the market.How it is going to effect the placement of student? SAURABH WALIA: Due to downfall in the GLOBAL Market worldwide this thing’s are happening. But still companies are hiring the people but there is a change in hiring trend. Now companies have stopped the PRE-HIRING and BULK HIRING. They had made a strategy of hiring “RIGHT TALENT AT THE RIGHT TIME”. Also companies are cutting the training cost and prefer to get industry ready guys. So if you have the right talent you don’t need to worry you will get your place in the industry. KIET wins the Annual Tech Fest of IIT Guwahati – Techniche 2014

Recently IIT Guwahati organised it’s tech fest and invited several institutions all over India. Fest was named as Techniche 2014. Some colleges of UPTU also participated but KIET students rocked there and wins over all the competition they faced. We are also sharing a small report of the same.

 

REPORT OF KIET E-CELL’S VISIT TO IIT-GUWAHATI

September 12, 2014

Team KIET E-CELL, working under the aegis of CSE Department & TBI KIET, started its enthusiastic journey to IIT-Guwahati for representing KIET in the TECHNICHE-2014 on September 2, 2014 at 6:30 a.m., under the leadership of Sachin Saxena (Student of CSE Department) and the guidance of Mrs. Seema Maitrey (Assistant Prof. CSE Deptt).

A team of nine brainiacs aimed at achieving great heights in Techniche’14, the annual techno-management fest of IIT-Guwahati.

After a several hour long journey, the team reached the IIT campus and sought its accommodation. The fest began on September 4, with an inauguration ceremony and other events.

The competitions began on September 5 and continued till September 8. Team KIET E-CELL had targeted the Corporate Module, whose result is mentioned below:

With several more glories added to it, the team concluded its trip and started its journey back to Ghaziabad on September 9, 2014 and reached the campus on September 10, 2014  around  12.25 a.m.

How to prepare for GATE

GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. If you basically understand the meaning of GATE, then what do you infer from that ? You will come to know that this exam in particular test the skills and aptitude of all those students who are in engineering or passed engineering and wants to check their aptitude and their general sense. This is the greatest exam for engineers all over India and is the only key to entrance to Good colleges of higher education in Engineering. Lakhs of students appear every year for GATE exam. Last year approx 10.5 Lakhs students applied for GATE paper. And the level of difficulty can also be judged with the fact that only 16 % of total students who appeared for it was able to quality the exam.

 

How to Prepare for GATE  ?

This is the most basic question , asked almost by every students in engineering who aspire to pursue for higher engineering education or wants togate-2015-exam-preparation go in Govt. Jobs. The reason being that most of the PSU’s has started treating as the GATE score an eligibility criteria for entering in it. In this article I will cover basic thing on how a student must prepare for the upcoming GATE exam.

If you are in engineering, let me just guide you that you must start preparing for GATE right from 3rd year if you are interested in pursuing higher education in engineering or have a dream to study in IIT’s for M Tech or so. If any student truly devote 3rd year and 4th year of his / her engineering for GATE Preparation, there is sure shot chances that you will qualify the GATE exam even with out any coaching or crash course. In case you have completed your engineering, then also time is not a barrier. You just need a one year gap and a proper guidance to clear your GATE exam. Further I am going to tell you how you should proceed on and what you should do, if you are going to appear for the GATE paper in future.

There are several parameters for preparation. I will be discussing these parameters one by one, so as to make your vision clear about it.

  • Understanding Course Architecture

    If you clearly see, there are your gate paper logically consist of two basic section. One section is what test your Aptitude skills and other section is testing your technical skills. So you must prepare your self in these skills should grasp sound knowledge on these factors :

    1. Aptitude Skills

      : Main aim of GATE paper is to check aptitude skills of an engineer. So to prepare for aptitude you need to practice aptitude question. For this purpose you may go some aptitude books available in the market or you may also search some online source of aptitude question and answers.

    2. Technical Skills

      : GATE paper also test your technical skills. These skills consist of what have you learnt in past four years of engineering. If you work to improve your conceptual knowledge of subjects you have covered in your engineering, it can help great for you to score good. I will recommend to follow standard books prescribed in your curriculum to understand your concepts thoroughly.

  • Managing Proper Time table

    :Aim is great, then time management should also be proper. There is a right time to do everything. Right time to study, right time to hangout, right time to eat and all other activities. Managing all these activities in your schedule properly will enable you to prepare good for your exams. Most commonly seen problem while doing so is not incurred while preparing the time table / schedule. Rather the major problem is following it. If you learn to follow your own timetable, it will help as one of the major factor behind your success. Remember that, timetable making is useless untill it is followed. 

  • Analyzing the Syllabus

    Understanding the basics of your syllabus is really a vital part of GATE Preparation. This is just like knowing where is the enemy located in the war, so that it can be found out and targeted. Similarly knowing syllabus properly will enable you the power to strengthen and focus on those particular topics that are important from examination point of view.   • Analyzing the Previous year papers :

    This is also necessary part of your GATE Preparation. If you can analyse the trend of past few years question papers, this will give you prediction idea of what type of questions can be asked and what is the level of difficulty of question asked in GATE Papers.   • The Final Touch

    Getting a good Crash Course :If your preparation is according to some coaching institutions, then this parameter is not for you. However if you have prepared yourself at home by following standard tips for GATE preparation, then here is highly recommended solution for you. There are many coaching institutions for GATE that gives coaching and the crash course as well. It is not mandatory for you to take coaching. But if you are going to appear in the upcoming GATE exam, then you must do a crash course with some reputed GATE Coaching institution. Crash course generally consists of a quick review session with some important tips and tricks for the final war and has a period of around 25 to 30 days. If you attend this course, it will make sure that you have left nothing in your preparation and is ready to write GATE paper.
