What is Computer Organization and Architecture
In computing, computer architecture is a set of rules and methods that describe the functionality, organization, and implementation of computer systems. Some definitions of architecture define it as describing the capabilities and programming model of a computer, as well as the microarchitecture or logic design of a processor. In other definitions computer architecture involves instruction set architecture design, microarchitecture design, logic design, and implementation.
The first known computer architecture was in the late 1940s, when John von Neumann wrote a paper entitled “First Draft of a Report on the EDVAC.” This paper explained the architecture of the EDVAC, which was the first stored–program computer. The paper also introduced the concept of a stored–program computer, which was a computer that could store a program in memory and execute it. This paper is considered the birth of computer architecture.
